Anakapalli’s New Green Steel Plant: Industrial Expansion & Jobs
The industrial horizon of Anakapalli district is expanding with the approval of a new multi-million ton capacity Green Steel Plant. Positioned near the bustling Achutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ), this mega project is poised to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for local engineers and workers.
Green Steel Manufacturing Concept
Unlike traditional coal-heavy steel plants, this new facility in Anakapalli will incorporate modern green steel technologies. Utilizing hydrogen-based direct reduction and electric arc furnaces, the plant intends to reduce carbon emissions by up to 60%, making it one of the most environmentally sustainable industrial projects in southern India.
Job Creation and Economic Upliftment
Local employment is the core focus of the project, with commitments to hire over 70% of the workforce from the Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam districts. It will create immediate opportunities in construction, mechanical operations, quality assurance, logistics, and supply-chain management. A dedicated vocational training center is also being established to upskill local youth.
Strategic Infrastructure Benefits
- Close connectivity to Gangavaram and Vizag Ports for easy raw material import and product export.
- Integration with the Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC).
- Abundant natural resources and access to high-capacity power lines near Achutapuram.
- Synergy with local ancillary engineering units in Gajuwaka and Autonagar.
