P. Raju, held in Visakhapatnam Central Jail under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, was released for the day on Wednesday (June 3, 2026), on the orders of Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha, to attend his son’s funeral. The move drew appreciation from his family and residents of Jampena village in V. Madugula mandal.

Mr. Raju, a resident of Jampena village and also known as Mahalakshmi Naidu, was detained on January 12 on the directions of the district police in connection with a ganja trafficking case.
