# Vizag may witness rain for rest of May due to active pre-monsoon conditions

For decades, Visakhapatnam’s hottest days have been felt in late May, before the sky opens up in June, under the influence of the southwest monsoon. However, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials say the May-end is likely to be rainy due to active pre-monsoon conditions. The weather forecast suggests light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers.

Usually, the southwest monsoon sets in between June 11 and June 13 in Visakhapatnam. But the meteorologists expect an earlier onset this year. They attribute the prevailing cloudy conditions in the city to a trough formed due to an upper cyclonic circulation over the coastal Andhra Pradesh.
