# Vizag man loses over Rs 1.2 crore in investment fraud

Visakhapatnam: A 45-year-old man from [Vizag](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/vizag) lost over ₹1.22 crore in an online investment scam, exposing the growing sophistication of cybercrooks who continue to target gullible investors with promises of quick returns.The victim said he was contacted in Nov 2025 via Telegram by a group posing as representatives of Hantec Markets–Forex Trading. They assured him that investments would double within months, citing examples of others who had earned huge profits. Initially, he received small returns, which encouraged him to invest further.Encouraged by this, the complainant decided to invest more money and, over time, transferred around Rs85 funds in stages from his various bank accounts. "When he tried to withdraw the profit displayed on the trading site, the fraudsters demanded additional ‘tax' and service charges. Again, believing this to be true, he transferred Rs38 lakh to get his profits. However, even after waiting for more than two days, he struggled to withdraw the profits. Upon further contacting them, he was told to pay another Rs 58 lakh for conversions charges from USD to INR. Despite repeatedly sending messages and making calls, the complainant received no response from them. Later, he realized that the gang fraudulently obtained money from him under the pretext of investment and he was cheated of over Rs1.22 crore The police observed that the investment frauds have been reported in Vizag city despite the series of awareness programmes. The biggest hunk of these financial cyber frauds involved different types of investment scams. This was driven by netizen's greed and desire to make easy money, which was why they fell for such investment schemes that promised quick returns, the police added.
