# LPG carrier Pine Gas changes route, to dock at Vizag port today after crossing Hormuz

Officials indicated that taking the eastern route and sailing further north would have significantly lengthened the journey.

“It is expected early tomorrow. We are fully prepared for its arrival,” a spokesperson for the Vizag Port Authority told Hindustan Times. The official said the port has fully equipped LPG handling units that comply with Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation standards.

The rerouting comes as India faces widespread supply disruptions due to the West Asian war, Hindustan Times reported, adding that LPG and natural gas tankers are being given berthing priority under shipping ministry directives.

The vessel, Pine Gas, which is 227 metres long, was earlier scheduled to arrive at Odisha’s Dhamra port on April 1, though its original manifest destination was New Mangalore, according to Hindustan Times.

Officials indicated that taking the eastern route and sailing further north would have significantly lengthened the journey.

“Sailing north to Dhamra would have made the voyage even longer,” a second official told Hindustan Times. “Such changes happen due to operational reasons. Operators and the government are constantly coordinating. Sea condition is also a factor in navigation.”

The report by Hindustan Times said the tanker had departed from Ghantoot in the UAE along with another India-flagged LPG carrier, Jag Vasant.

Both vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz after being allowed passage by Iran, which has imposed a near blockade in the region. Jag Vasant reached Vadinar on March 28.

Amid the global shipping disruptions, several Indian ports have created additional capacity to manage increased traffic, Hindustan Times reported.

These include Visakhapatnam, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, VO Chidambaranar Port Authority, Mundra, Deendayal Port Authority, New Mangalore Port Authority, Cochin Port Authority and Chennai Port Authority.
