# Faulty helmet cited for death in Vizianagaram accident

Visakhapatnam: Two persons were killed in a road accident when an APSRTC bus hit their bike from behind near Gotlam road, within the Bondapalle police station limits in Vizianagaram. Police said the rider wore a helmet, but it was not a BIS-certified helmet.The victims have been identified as P Ramunaidu (33) and M Elayya (48). They died on the spot while they were heading to Vizianagaram from Porali village under Dattirajeru mandal.

Vizianagaram district police chief AR Damodhar, along with his team, visited the accident site to establish if it was a known black spot for accidents. He noted that although the rider was wearing a helmet, its quality was poor, resulting in the helmet breaking into pieces, which resulted in his death.According to the Motor Vehicles Act, it is emphasised that not only must riders wear a helmet, but they must also wear a good-quality helmet properly and ensure that they are strapped in.The police said the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the exact reasons for the fatal accident. If the driver of the bus was found negligent, they would register a case against him. In another incident, a retired army man, S Rama Rao (53), a native of Kasimkota mandal, was killed in a road accident after his bike skidded in Anakapalle. Similarly, one person lost his life, and two others suffered injuries as two bikes collided near Santhalavalasa under Dumbriguda mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district. The deceased was identified as G Subbarao (25). The injured were shifted to the government hospital at Araku Valley.
